Preconception
Do the work before you need to.
You're not waiting until something goes wrong. You're doing the work before you need to. And you're doing it together.
What preconception care actually addresses
The nervous system is running the whole show underneath.
Most preconception conversations start with ovulation tracking and prenatal vitamins. Those things matter. But the nervous system is running the whole show underneath all of it, and that's where we come in.
When the spine is misaligned, it creates interference in the communication between the brain and the body. That interference can affect hormone regulation, cycle consistency, pelvic floor function, and the overall environment the body creates for conception. It doesn't have to be dramatic to be disruptive. And it affects both partners.
Preconception chiropractic care at SkyChi looks at both of you — not just the partner who will carry the pregnancy, but the full picture of two nervous systems preparing to bring a baby into the world.
For both partners
What we focus on, together.
Nervous system regulation
Neither of you should be running a stress response while your bodies are trying to do something that requires a lot of internal resources.
Hormonal communication
The nervous system and endocrine system are in constant conversation; when one is under stress, the other feels it.
Overall readiness
Conception is a team effort. Both bodies benefit from being in the best possible state before it begins.
Pelvic balance
For the carrying partner: alignment in the pelvis and sacrum directly affects the ligaments and tissues that support the uterus.
The Schaefer Protocol
A specific approach for a specific goal.
A structured, research-informed chiropractic protocol developed specifically for couples in the preconception phase. Not a generic care plan with a different label on it.
Assess
A clear picture of how each partner's nervous system and spine are currently functioning.
Address
Specific areas of interference — and the work of restoring balance in both bodies.
Sustain
Maintaining that balance and preparing you for the real demands of conception and pregnancy.
What the journey looks like
Start to finish, you always know where you are.
It starts with a free 15-minute consultation call with Dr. Rai. If it's a good fit, you'll both come in for an initial exam that includes Insight scans and any necessary orthopedic tests. From there, Dr. Rai walks you through what she found for each partner — and what she recommends before anything else happens.
Care plans are built around your specific results, not a standard protocol. Some couples move through the Schaefer Protocol relatively quickly. Others need more time. Either way, you always know what we're working on and what comes next. By the time you conceive, your bodies have already been doing the work. You're not catching up. You're ready.
This is for you if…
You recognize yourself here.
- You're actively trying to conceive and want both of your bodies in the best position possible.
- You've been trying for a while without success and haven't looked at nervous system health as part of the picture.
- One or both partners have a history of cycle irregularities, hormonal imbalance, or unexplained fertility challenges.
- You've experienced a previous pregnancy loss and want to be more intentional this time.
- You want to start your pregnancy journey from a place of strength — not catch-up.

The best time to start is before you need to.
